1 Unique Way To Create
A Personalized Weekly Review

At the end of another work at home or away from home work week, you find yourself thinking: "Wow, this certainly was a great week!"

And yet...

At the conclusion of another week it goes something like this: "Wow, this certainly was a 'near miss' disaster week!"

Question: How do you capture the momentum of the good days or regain any sense of the same when things don't go so well?

Answer: I'm not totally sure!

But I am confident of this: a good, positive weekly review can assist you in:

Capturing what went well,
Helping you to refocus,
Building for future success,
And improving yourself or your business.

It is my desire that the weekly review you create will prove to be one of the many tools you use in your quest for excellence.

This unique "tool in formation" is designed promote the following.

Give yourself credit for "things done well"Allow you to creatively express your thoughts
Keep you in a training/duplicating model.
Pinpoint and attack success hindering attitudes or actions
Rivet your attention on the next play of the game -- whatever you discover that play should be for the next week.

And I say "Tool In Formation" because you will be promoted to design the review your way. For instance, you might change the order, completely take a section out, create a new section, etc.

My Week In Review: Your Tool In Formation

Section One: Discover What Went Well

Here I would suggest that you:

Design a simple question to ask yourself each week that prompt reviewing your week up front from a positive point of view.  Something simple such as: "What went well this week?" would be a good starter question to ask.
Create a "target number" to list. For instance, if you wanted to "force" yourself to be more specific regarding the question suggested above, it could be: "What two things went well this week?"

Section Two: Design A Small Step

Speaking personally or professionally...

First, ask yourself a question like the following (either personally or professionally):
"What small improvement could I make next week that -- if repeated consistently over time -- would benefit myself or those I influence in a unique way?

Then....answer your question!

Section Three: "Story Time!"

First, design a question to prompt a review aspects of your "story" for the week.

By way of example, you could as ask: "Have I...

Received any compliments, 
Heard of any positive results,
Been motivated by someone's success,
Or discovered any exciting facts...

That I should record to use in my business or note personally for any level of growth in my life?

Then... record your answer(s)!

Section Four: Check Out Those Patterns!

This is your "ruthless honesty" section. Yes, it could be a bit brutal. However, it could also be very helpful.

Being Ruthlessly Honest ask yourself something like the following. The time frame could be anything. In the example below it is 90 days. You might like it to be a week, a month or some other period of time.

The Question: "If I repeated the way I worked this past week for the next 90 days, would it be a good or "not-so-good" thing for my business health?"

Then...

Identify any positive or negative pattern revealed by responding to the question.
Decide to take an appropriate action: either to reinforce a great habit uncovered or demolish a destructive pattern in the making. You choose: it's your review!

Section Five: Journal!

This is your "catch all." Journal, take notes, draw diagrams, etc., etc. Here you capture your "whatevers" and turn them into power units for such things as:

Personal development
Goal setting
Time management
Spiritual formation
Building of family relationships
Career enhancement
Etc!

"Lord, I have a simple request: in thinking about my week, I ask you to review it with me. Help me to see what you desire me to see and follow where you would lead me both now and in my week ahead. In Jesus' Name, Amen!"

1 Surefire Way To Kill Our Walk With Jesus.

What a day in church! Listening to the message could be described as "a joy" and following along with the worship band -- absolutely super.

But communion struck home.

Reflecting back on my life, processing how Jesus took a young Marine and totally changed everything, and how He walked the road to Calvary in order that He might walk His way into my heart when I invited Him in:

"Way over top" love. And faithfulness. Consistent, never-ending faithfulness.

Which leads me to... my point in this brief time of sharing:

1 Surefire Way To Kill Your Faith In Jesus: Never Remember The Cross

We may never be able to understand Jesus' walk on that road to Calvary: never.

But we can contemplate the reality of the:

Love,
Sacrifice,
Determination,
And Purpose-filled Actions...

By Savior of our life to bring us to Himself through His death, burial, resurrection and ascension into glory.

And I believe that contemplate we must. We must rehearse the grim side of reality: the reality of an awful walk of up that hill by Jesus...

For us.

So Decide To Remember.

Today may or may not be "communion day" for you. You may or may not have...

Been to church,
Read the Bible,
Meditated on Jesus because of a song,
Or otherwise been in any kind of "spiritual moment."

Which, by the way, is fine: correct?

In other words, we don't live in church, recite the Bible "24/7," listen to Christian music every second of the day, and often cannot define each moment of the day as a "spiritual one."

But we can take time,
Make the choice,
And tune in to what Jesus has done for us on that tree.

We can do such in our way, according to how we process what Jesus and His salvation has meant -- and means -- to us: that we can do.

And we should.

We can take the time, put the worship music on, open the Bible, take time to meditate, go for a walk, write in our journal, open the devotional we value at the time, or any other "can do" action or attitude that....

Brings us to the feet of Jesus in worship, praise and thanksgiving for His bringing us to Himself.

And in doing so we can defeat one sure way of killing our walk with Him.

"Lord, you know I never will be able to comprehend your awful walk up that hill and the sacrifice that followed. Never. But, Oh Jesus, I can at least tell you 'thanks for my life.' Thanks for the love, faithfulness and your walking with me every day -- every day -- since I met you as my Savior face to face in the Marine Corps barracks. Lord, strengthen me not to forget and live for you from the inside out by your love, grace and power. In Your Name I pray, Amen!"

Success without the underlying value of being committed to the most honorable values in life can be -- and often is -- not only shortsighted but heart rending in terms of the outcome.
And yet success that is based on the highest values we can think of may not yield to all of the "success" in the efforts we put into place, but it most certainly ranks high in the eyes of Jesus!

We ought not walk to God relative to prayer.
Instead, we ought to "run" to him -- going quickly, during the varied and many seasons or our lives, and for as many reasons as needed throughout all of those seasons.

Beauty realized through the leading, guidance, wisdom and strength of Jesus cannot be matched.
And yet it seems to me that while Christ simply gives many beautiful things in life to to His own, He also allows us the privilege of expanding our realization of such beauty as we work at it. In other words, we have a part. We design. We strive to see. We cultivate. We share. And we decide to bring Him in to our worlds as we do so.

Many are our silent moments.
Many are the silent moments of our lives where the deepest and not-so-deep-at-all expressions of who we are, what we are thinking and how our hearts are taking in life are experienced.
Those moments we can and so very often do express to the One who hears all we say, all of the time, with all of His heart.

So very often our faith is molded, shaped, challenged and expanded upon within the confines of those "silent moments of the soul."
And so very often our faith is reflected through the avenues of trust and thanksgiving.

Faith On The Tough Side

An earthbound journey

of loving the Christ we have chosen to follow

by choosing trust over despair,

getting through it instead of giving up,

To be sure, faith in Christ gives us much delight.
However, as followers of Jesus we experience those times that might possibly be termed "faith on the tough side" of life.
We get confused, try hard and things don't work out, suffer pain, defeat and a host of other physically and emotionally difficult times, days and even years.
And yet... we cling to Jesus while on those tough sides. We cling, we trust and we keep moving forward with his help. Always easy? Absolutely not. But always necessary? Absolutely!

Reflection More...

No doubt these brief thoughts bring many others to mind: and no doubt you've had your share of your own "cling to Jesus" times.
Thinking about Jesus on the tough side of life, what comes to mind -- in a positive manner? For instance, what could you share with someone who might need a bit of assistance to get them through their own difficult day... or days?
Now, suppose you decided to record your own brief quote or thought in a journal entry of some sort, what would that thought be?

On Prayer and Sharing With God

Prayer

The ongoing practice

of deciding to share with God

all of who I am, who I am not

and who I desire to become
by the power of His grace.

Reflecting...

Prayer is a decision. How, when and where we pray also consists of a series of decisions. Quite obviously, the previous statement is no secret: but it qualifies as being totally important when it comes to the practice of prayer.
With regards to the quote, one of the key concepts here involves the concept of sharing. That is, choosing to share with the Lord what is going on with me on the inside. And I mean by that: in depth sharing. Sharing with the Lord the moments of my days "inside and out." Happy, sad and all of the between happy and sad thoughts.
In one sense I keep on learning the art of sharing everything with Jesus: who I am, who I am not (shortcomings, struggles, etc.), and who I would like to become if it is in the Lord's will.

Reflection More...

Question: how often do you "think with God"? I mean by that just sharing your thoughts -- how you process life -- with God.
And, what does it mean to you?
I am asking these questions simply to prompt any additional "before the Lord heart thoughts" that may assist you in your growth in Christ.

Just in case... should you happen create a few entries in your journal concerning the subject of sharing with the Lord, what might your entry say?
And, should you summarize something to remember from your journal entry in one word, phrase or sentence: what would that be?

On Desring To Know God

On Desiring To Know God

In my desire to know God more,

I must seek with more discipline,

follow in more of His strength,

and abide in more of His grace.

We know that in most all of life our desires must be pursued with a measure of discipline -- at least under normal circumstances.
It is the same with God. Should I desire to know the Lord more, it stands to reason that I should expect to seek him in a more disciplined fashion: or at least keep up on the disciplines that I have developed.
In our seeking, our purpose should be to follow the Lord and as we continue to follow him we should keep on learning the "art" of abiding in him and his grace.

As you think of discipline, seeking, following and abiding in relationship to your walk with Jesus, what lessons have you learned -- or are you learning? Not that I am asking you to share here: I am not: this is simply for your own reflection and growth.
Granted, those are huge concepts!

A Faith Trade Agreement

A Faith Trade Agreement

Exchanging what we may prefer to do

and who we might like to become

for the greater riches of

knowing and living for Jesus

as He reveals such riches to us.

Reflecting...

True life with Jesus -- a life that honors and chooses to follow Him -- often means exchanging what we may be seeking at the moment for a better "calling from above" for that same moment.

In fact, I would say that in following Jesus we find ourselves exchanging the old for the new on a regular basis.

By clinging to Jesus and dedicating ourselves to following Him, we exchange selfishness for giving, prayerlessness for becoming more "prayer aware," winning at all costs for winning at what matters most, and a host of other trades in life.

The point? We live our lives of faith by striving to continually operate on a faith trade agreement. We voluntarily agree to "trade up" for a higher life in Jesus.

We love, serve, obey and keep moving forward...

Under His direction,
By His power,
And for His honor.

The Hope Of Tomorrow With Jesus

When "No More" Reigns

(Reflecting On The Hope Of Tomorrow With Jesus)

One day everything belonging to the order of life we know
today will evaporate in the re-creative mist of God's grace.

All will be made new.

God will reign with His people and they will share the now
incomprehensible blessings of a new heaven and earth.

Adam, Eve, and Abraham.
Joseph, Daniel and Lazarus.
The woman at the well and Mary, mother of Jesus.

Lazarus, Paul, Timothy,
And the saints of all ages.

All shall praise Jesus as the Alpha and Omega, Beginning and
End of all things.

The "No More" times will reign due to the transforming power
of God's saving grace.

No More...

Broken lives,
Broken homes,
Or broken promises.

Days when false hope, false pride, and false humility claim
*No More* victories in the hearts of men because the total
and complete victory of Jesus will be...

Accepted,
Realized,
And enjoyed by His own:
Forever.

No More...

Nights of mental agony,
Hours coping with the reality of debilitating disease,

Or years responding to attacks on innocent populations by
misguided religious zealots.

*No More* worship without meaning, life without purpose, or
living with the harsh realities of regret.

No More...

Foster homes,
Centers for abused women and children,
Twelve step recovery programs,

Unrestrained evil,
Oppression of the poor,
Torture without mercy,
Or exploitation without conscience.

No More...

Misunderstanding,
Understanding for the wrong reasons,
Cheating,
Being cheated,

Or living for everything wrong though everything seems so
right.

Faith will not be abandoned, deceiving spirits will not
encase the hearts of men in tombs of godless teachings,
And sin on any level will rule *No More.*

Ever.

                           ~*~*~*
"Oh, Father, God of all time and eternity, we as followers
of Jesus long for our 'No More' days. Keep us looking to
You and loving You with all our hearts.

Help us to trust when it hurts, see with the eyes of faith
when seeing gets tough, and serve Your Son with passion
because of the passion He suffered for us.

Enable us to enter our 'No More' days with a quiet rest in
the love, power and wisdom that envelops all you determine
for us and our world.

In Jesus' Name we pray, Amen!"

to those who strive to allow Him to be so.

Reflecting...

For Christ-followers knowing Jesus is one thing -- but knowing him as our life is another.

To make the life of Jesus my life in the way he would like me to is challenging to say the least: unless, of course, you have all there is in relationship to the term "abiding" down pat!
Having noted the two thoughts above, there is real joy in knowing the the Giver of all life desires to become my life as well. What an honor.

Reflecting More...

As I think about Jesus being "my life," what thoughts immediately come to mind?
During those tough days and those way over the top delightful days in Christ when he has become most special to me, what thoughts come to mind?
Hearing my "heart-speak," should I journal, anything to keep for myself or share with others?

Should any thoughts be surfacing that could be termed primary in nature, does any one single thought rise to the surface?

Gaining from who and what I must

We are encouraged to make the best of what we have, seek the help of others as we are able, and move forward in life with the best of intentions -- and I believe that we should.
However, in doing what we should and becoming who we believe the Lord would have us to become, I also believe that seeking and maintaining an attitude of gratefulness should be a part of our growth process.

Under normal circumstances we have the ability -- each day -- to give away things that matter. Love, memories, compliments, encouragement, affirmation and a host of other "be a positive influence" people aspects of life.
The positives we give away can come from planning to do so in advance or listening and responding to the right moments and then taking action.

Reflecting A Bit More ...

What could I give away tomorrow (or very soon) that would not cost me anything financially but would build up someone close to me?
Time wise, what could I give that would affirm, bless, encourage or inspire someone within my sphere of influence? A spouse, child, neighbor or friend?
Would I by any chance be thinking of laying aside virtue and the expression of God's will for something of lesser value?

My Takeaway...

Thinking about the topics of giving away good things, the subject of virtue and cultivating right reasons in life, what one thing could I take away from this brief reflection? What would the Lord have me take away?

Five Pillars Of Excellence For Personal Spiritual Growth

Don't let the brevity of these comments fool you. They are a gold mine in terms of value in our lives.

These four disciplines -- when reflected and acted upon -- will continually propel us in the direction of living a life of excellence.

And...

As we focus on the Person of Jesus Christ as our model, motivation and strength while striving to put these disciplines into practice, we can't help but grow in the realization of what it means to be a person of excellence for Christ.

~*~*~ How To Read The Following ~*~*~

Each main thought is followed by: (1) a definition; and (2) a personal affirmation that can be made relative to the definition.

Try to let each definition and personal affirmation capture your imagination: how the basic truth of what is being said could improve your life.

In order to help you "see" the possibility, allow the two questions below to serve as examples of how focusing on one of the five pillars of excellence could enhance your personal spiritual growth.

Regarding the area of *concentration,* you create a question like this:

"If I concentrated my efforts on improving in the area of personal time management, what could this mean for me?"

Focusing on *personal control,* you might create a question similar to this one:

"What if I exercised more personal control concerning what I say to others, what positive changes might I see in my life?"

Reading, thinking, and praying through these five pillars more than once should prove very beneficial for you: at least that's the goal.

1. CONCENTRATION

Defined: concentration is the power of focus.

Related Affirmation: "I am focusing and staying focused on the most important issues and tasks of life today."

2. CONTROL

Defined: control is the power of self-discipline.

Related Affirmation: "I am exercising daily control over my emotions, energies and talents for the purpose of maximum involvement and achievement in life."

3. COMPLETION

Defined: completion is power of follow-through.

Related Affirmation: "I am being persistent and enduring. I am finishing things."

4. COMPASSION

Defined: compassion is the power of caring.

Related Affirmation: "I am caring and loving. The attitude of caring frames how I am living today."

5. CHRIST

Meaning: Christ is the power of true life in action.

Related Affirmation: "I am looking to Christ as my example of compassion, concentration, control and completion.

He cared for people, concentrated on what mattered, controlled his life, and completed all he came to do."

~*~*~ A Question For You ~*~*~

If you were to pick the most important area to work on this week, which one of the disciplines would it be? Record it here:

~*~*~ Remember Two Key Words ~*~*~

When creating your plan of action, please keep in mind the following two words:

1. Believable
2. Achievable

Believable = small enough to be able to see yourself actually doing what you desire to do.

Achievable = Step-by-step success.

Avoid steps of action only Jesus himself could do!

In other words, take into consideration: (1) your current stage in life; (2) your current set of realities; and (3) the level of any skill set needed to accomplish your goal.

"Oh, Father, I come before You and ask you to bless my life in these needed areas of discipline.

Lord, which one do You feel I should work on this week?

I ask you to guide me through the process, help me to be realistic in what I set out to do, and then help me to look to Jesus as the example of how to live my life at all times.

I ask this in Jesus' Name, Amen!"

Listen In The Good Times!

"Dads and Daughters...
Dads, Listen When Life Is Good!"

"Listen when life treats her well.

Share the joys, freakish highs,

and every level of joyful emotion in between."

Expanding on a recent post entitled "Dads and Daughters... Dad's, Listen To Your Daughters, here are several additional comments for your consideration.

A Simple Rule Of Thumb

There's a simple rule of thumb here: delight in her delights.

Shared delight = multiplied moments of...

Potential interaction,
Bridge building
And the on-going cultivation of mutual respect.

I believe this happens *because as dads we choose to make it happen.*

At 45 I may not relate to a momentary high of a fifteen year old being we termed entirely in a right frame of mind relative to the species we term human!

Age gaps do exist.
Understanding gaps exist.
And gaps of relating exist.

But it does not matter: it doesn't!

I can choose to capture the joy she reflects at the moment, delight in it myself solely because it is her delight, and make it an immediate personal treasure because:

1. I value my daughter.

2. I value the bond that shared joy creates.

I hope you got that! Because...

I value my daughter.
I value the bond created by shared joy.

Things can become a joy by choice, and the choices we make in this area of our lives, dads, are crucial.

Do It!

Yes, this too takes time: do it!

Yes, it can be done: do it!

It's all about...

Love.
Acceptance.
Approval.
And the light in our eyes that creates the light in her eyes.

When it comes to dads and daughters, few subjects in my mind
claim more importance and that of learning to listen.

Seriously, dads...

Learn.
Cultivate.
Seek.
Desire.
Pray for...

A heart to listen -- and listen well -- to the daughters of your
life.

Dads, Listen To Your Daughters"

"Thanks, dad. Thanks for listening. I always knew I could
come to you."

Penned when I was about five years younger, I wrote...

Last month a strange and not entirely unexpected guest made
his way into my life.

"Sixty" sauntered in, quite confident of his admittance I
might add, caring little how I felt.

Being sixty can mean...

Briskly heading toward the men's room quicker than I might
choose,

Staring in disbelief at the "fright night like" creature
squinting back at me from the torture chamber (my mirror)
while remembering the kid wearing a swimsuit who stopped
the clock soon enough to place second in state,

Wondering if the time ever existed when I didn't need to see
*someone* related to *something* about an obscure (or not so
obscure) part of my physical being,

And being grateful for hearing a set of words similar to the
ones you read during the last sixty seconds:

"Thanks, dad.
Thanks for listening.
I always knew I could come to you."

My friend and father of one or more daughters: I beg you.

I beg you...

Please, please read the following statement carefully,
thoughtfully and if so inclined prayerfully:

You may be sad for good advice not received,
but make every effort -- every effort --
not to fail at listening to your daughter.

Tears come in many shapes and sizes, but few carry more
emotional weight than tears of regret.

Strive to lessen your tears of regret and increase the
future possibility of expressing tears of joy for the hours,
days and years of careful listening to the daughter of your
youth.

Listen when she's down -- no matter how long it takes.

Listen when she wants to build a snow tunnel, take a walk,
go to the zoo, watch her routine for the color guard, pay
attention as she plays the flute, and pick her up when she's
scared.

Listen when life treats her well. Share the joys, freakish
highs, and every level of joyful emotion in between.

Listen to the story of her life in grade three because you
want her to tell you a whole lot more when she's twenty-
three, thirty-three and forty-three.

Listen when she feels unlovely. Take just enough time to
let her know in no uncertain terms how lovely she is to you.

Listen when the guy's been a jerk, and don't jerk her
bruised emotional chain while she's down. Care, listen, and
care yet more.

Listen when she needs you to listen more than you need your
emotional space.

Listen when she questions your standards, beliefs, judgment
and even your love. Listen and pray -- like a drowning man
in turbulent waters -- because of your need to carefully
respond instead of carelessly react.

Listen when she needs a friend more than a father.

Listen when she says "I'm sorry." Listen and forgive. Be a
man of grace as opposed to a man with a large set of rules
and a small heart.

Listen when an emergency apparatus is needed which she
anticipates using with great regularity. When you hear,
"Dad, can you go to the store for me?" ... just go. Yes,
even when you find yourself trying to discover a box "with
wings."

Listen when she wants you to hold her hand while walking
down the street. Listen, because life will seem unusually
short when she takes your arm to meet another special,
younger man at the end of a very long aisle. And should she
request to include a musical piece with two words in the
title ("Butterfly" and "Kisses"), prepare by playing the
song advance, dad. Believe me, you'll need the prep time.

Listen when you answer the phone and she asks: "Dad, can I
talk to mom?" Don't hesitate. Get mom. Let her know you
respect her need to "talk girl talk." Get this, dad: a
girl's heart comes super sized for life. Her heart can
handle more than one person in its chambers.

Listen when you hear the sounds of love she expresses to her
own child, when life spits out more pain than she
anticipated at age sixteen, and when she asks for your
prayers.

Listen.
Care.
Love.
And listen some more.

Listen till you hear...

"Thanks, dad.
Thanks for listening.
I always knew I could come to you."

You will not regret it. I promise you.
You will not regret paying the price to hear those words.

On Our Treasured Relationships...

On Relating...

We only win
in our most treasured relationships
as we treasure most winning as a team.

My wife and I have walked many years together, and one of the things we have advised those who care to listen to us about the building of quality relationships is this:

"Remember to win as a team."

Personally, I can't even begin to tell you how much we value this concept. It is not that I win: it is that we win.

Holding that perspective close to your heart can make a world of difference within the heart of your relationship as a couple.

May the Lord bless you as you build together to last a lifetime!

Taking Time To Reflect ...

As I read this short note, does anything come to mind about "winning as team" as it pertains to personal relationships that I feel I should remember, reflect on, or take action on?
If we have been successful at "winning as a team" in our marriage, have we shared anything with our children to help them grow in this area?

On Caring and Listening...

Caring...

Listening just enough to hear what is needed
yet careful enough to avoid
reactions that are needed not.

We know that relationships are primary. They matter. Yet, just like everything else worthwhile they require work.

And to "work" in a relationship, obviously, means...

A decision to value "us" (whoever "us" may be),
A related decision to make whatever needs to take place... take place,
And to couple the idea of commitment with those decisions.

May the Lord give us grace in making our relationships work now and for the long haul!

Taking Time To Reflect ...

Am I listening to that special person in my life? When I need to and how I need to?
And what about others? In a casual acquaintance with a friend, neighbor or work associate, do I pause long enough "to make listening happen" in the positive sense of the word?
Now, what about the Lord? Have I brought him into my listening adventures of my day? Am I quick to listen... and even pray as I do?

On Asking, Seeking and Listening...

On Asking...

To ask with a seeking heart
is the essence of listening to the Lord
with your whole heart.

Taking Time To Reflect ...

When I have listened to the Lord in my life -- as in truly listened -- where there any lessons from those yesterdays that I could reflect on this day?
And speaking of reflection of my yesterdays, should I journal today about anything? Even simple things like words, phrases or "get closer to the Lord" ideas?

Taking Time To Reflect ...

Speaking of the being quiet in the stop, slow down and purposefully "let go that I may gain more" type quiet... when was the last time I did that?
If I were to journal about the times of my life where "quiet and restful" characterized my time, what would I place in my journal?
Does anyone come to mind that I might be a "blessing behind the scenes" for them by praying for them to experience several of those valued, rest of heart moments?
When I think of a "moment of quiet rest," what picture comes to mind? A place I've visited, would love to go to, or something that represents peace of mind and heart to me? Can I picture it now? Should I plan it in my day to picture it tomorrow?

While interacting with an online friend recently, I was asked to share/create a quote that had to do with the topic of success from a faith-based perspective.

While I produced a number of quotes, I think this one sums up a great deal relative to what it does mean for us to be a success in the world as followers of Christ.

Responding with the heart of Jesus

to the people and circumstances of my life.

I would term this...

Certainly not easy.
And certainly not anything less than challenging.
But most certainly worth the effort.

Simple. True. Amazing.

The comment in Acts 17 really caught my attention today. Had I read it before? Of course. And thought about it? A second, "of course."

But as you know so many truths in the Scriptures captivate our attention spans at different times and in different ways, and this was one of those "captivating moments" for me as I read these simple words:

"He himself gives all men life and breath and everything else." (Acts 17:25).**

I am breathing now... because the Lord is giving me breath.
I am writing, reflecting and reading -- ultimately because of the fact that I am alive and able to do so.
In short, I am living because of Someone else gifting me life.

Simply amazing. As I wrote in the title: Simple. True. Amazing.

Just Thinking...

Am I comprehending this day that my being alive is because of one the Lord's grace in my life?
If I were to journal my thoughts relative to that simple truth, what would I journal?
If I am a dad, have I transferred that thinking to the best of my ability to my children?
And what about my prayers? As I live and move throughout my day, how would this influence the content of my prayers?

I created this brief quote while reflecting on the relationship between seeing how the Lord works in all things in our lives... and thanking him for what we see.

And my thought was...

If we truly see our daily lives with the eyes of God each day, we would see much of God's astounding, ongoing grace in what we see. And in doing so, I cannot imagine not thanking the God of all grace for that which I am able to "see" or "sense" in any give day -- or moment of the day.

So The Questions Might Be...

Am I seeing as I should?
Am I seeing what I can see or is my sight blocked because I am not looking?
Am I listening "hard" enough to hear God speak and, therefore, sense how He is working in my life?
Am I thanking the Lord for what I am seeing, sensing or feeling that He is doing in my life -- whether at a specific time or place (such as a place where I have my quiet time) or spontaneously as the day unfolds?

It matters not within what arena we may ourselves in: we may
be...

Reflecting on how to make a difference in a charitable work
we may be associated with.

Striving to succeed as a stay at home Christian mom or dad
while spending long hours in the pursuit of what we believe
to be our God-given dreams.

A copywriter, blogging expert, article writer, social media
specialist, teacher, coach or...

Any other role that may come to mind.

Whatever we do, however, we will almost inevitably interact
about success in one form or another.

We pray about it, write about it, make plans to see success
happen in our worlds, attend conferences for the purpose of
gaining or maintaining our desired level of success and no
doubt we literally dream about it at times.

What do I, then, hope to add to bring to the table in this
discussion? Answer: a simple quote for yourself and others
to...

Once again, I would encourage you to somehow -- in your own

world.

Here are a cluster of questions to assist you in discovering
any applications relative to this short quote.

What deeply felt desires would I love to make progress on
this day, month or year? What do I sense concerning the
Lord's leading in this area?

What changes will I need to make in order to experience the
realization of my deeply held desires?

How am I doing in the consistency area of life? Do I need
to sharpen up a bit? How consistent will I need to be, and
in what area will I need to be consistent the most, if I am
to accomplish the desires I hold so dear?

What do I sense the Lord leading me to reflect on concerning
the entire aspect of change in my life -- especially at this
time of the year?

On The Fear Of God

First Thoughts...

In my journey through the fifteenth chapter of the gospel of John, my mind and heart turned to the subject of "the fear of God" and what a proper "fear" of God can mean in our lives.

In the fear of God, we worship.
In the fear of God, pray.
And in the fear of God, we advance. We advance in his ways -- ever moving toward his gracious Person in our lives.

Reflect With Me...

As you take in the following quote, I would suggest that you pause just enough to take it in. And, by chance, should you disagree, simply adjust to your own way of thinking -- being careful not to destroy the moment -- and bring into your life all that the Lord would have you "bring in" for your life regarding this important topic of fearing the Lord.

Living In The Vine

It is in the True Vine

that I must live

if I am to truly live at all.

First Thoughts...

I would be hard pressed to give a number to how many times I have returned to the fifteenth chapter of the Gospel of John in my life. During my many revisits of that passage...

Each time I am blessed.
Each time I am challenged.
And each time I stand amazed at the grace afforded to a young Marine who shared his need with Jesus so many years ago and whose needs have been met by my Savior innumerable times following that early evening's decision at Camp Pendleton.

Travel With Me...

Travel through sections of that chapter with me. Really. Settle down, lift up your voice to the true and living God of your life (if you are a Christ follower), and...

Invite Jesus "in" to read with you.
Speak with him as you move through the passage.
And allow the Spirit to say all to you that I could not even begin to say.

"I am the true vine and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he trims clean so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.

Remain in me, and I will remain in you.

No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing...

This is to my Father's glory that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples...

You did not choose me, but I chose you to go and bear fruit -- fruit that will last." (John 15:1-5, 8,16).**

Following one of my reflective moments recently spent in this passage, I jotted down these thoughts:

Bearing fruit is obviously a big deal here! On the basis of fruit bearing you are cut off?! Whoosh. That’s on the heavy side of life.
Remaining = fruit bearing. As in lots of fruit.
I cannot bear fruit without remaining in Jesus. No remaining. No abiding. No seeking, learning, depending, or following... no fruit.
If I remain, I can ask. And if I remain and ask, I can expect to receive.

Mind you, these are not exegetical teachings: they represent a segment of my sitting down, reflecting and doing what I suggested to you above.

Not teachings.
Simple reflections.

I don't know the answers to many of the questions that could be raised. I simply stand in presence of Jesus reflecting on the impact of both the need and potential of being able to bear fruit in His name.

And that, my internet friend, is what I would like to emphasize here: (1) the need; (2) the potential of bearing fruit for and with Jesus; (3) the privilege of prayer in the process; and (4) the honor of being able to be involved in the process.

Reflecting. Learning. Living. Growing.

As I read through the passage myself, I thought...
What are my thoughts on the subject of "fruit bearing?"
Should I share my insights on "abiding in Jesus" with my children or those I am influencing, what would I share?
As a father, mother, sister, brother, friend or significant other, how do I see my need to "remain in Jesus" as it relates to my need in relating to those important to me?
In thinking about my listening to the messages in my assembly of Christ followers, what thoughts come to mind about the idea of "abiding in Jesus" as I reflect on what I have been hearing?

Praying...

"Oh Lord, I admit once again my ignorance related to all that is involved in 'abiding in the vine.' But I do ask -- I sincerely ask -- for you strengthen my heart to hear what I need to hear, or what I must hear, as I reflect on this passage.

And, Oh, dear Lord I ask once again that I may bear fruit for you during my journey here on earth. Your fruit, in your time, according to your blessing and for your honor. You choose.

I so thank you for the honor to be able to think about this subject... let alone act on it.

In Jesus' Name. Amen!"

First Thoughts...

While listening to the message in church and reflecting on the message being given by one of our pastors, I journaled these thoughts:

"In the grace of Christ I live and if I am living well in Jesus I in grace I choose to receive all from him.

I see from where all things come and I accept that fact with thanksgiving and an ongoing sense of dedication to 'keep on going' with Jesus.

This means engaging in healthy self examination and choosing to do the right things, think the right thoughts and keep moving forward in Christ throughout the process."

In other words...

Knowing what I know about God's grace in all of life,
I am to choose to live the right way through the power of God that he gives me through that same grace.

Reflecting. Responding.

What "grace moments" have taken place in my life recently and how have I responded to those moments?
Do I feel that I am as aware as I should be regarding how the grace of Christ is operating in my life?
If I were to take five to ten minutes and record my observations about the nature of God's grace in my world, what might I write down?
While reading this short post, is the Lord bringing anything or anyone to mind? If so, why do I think that is happening?

First Thoughts...

As I thought about my life today, the "PrayingSimple" you just read came to mind -- or rather should I say heart? Either way, I created it.

Strength, wisdom and joy in Jesus: what a combination.

We need the strength of Jesus for so many, many aspects of our lives. And while that is a subject about many words could be put in place and concepts identified, for certain one aspect of realizing the strength of Jesus for the day is accepting the need for it in the first place and seeking the same.

And what about wisdom -- even in the so termed "simple things"? If I could just have my responses and reactions to life encompassed in the wisdom of Jesus throughout the day: that's a wonderful thought and most certainly worthy of a simple prayer.

Joy: now there's another subject worthy of consideration. Seeking to pursue and rest in the joy of Jesus for any given day: what an honor and even in some way a responsibility.

Reflecting. Responding.

Simple Praying. Simple Thoughts. Simple Questions.

How am I doing at seeking the strength of Jesus for my day... or days? Do I need to make any adjustments there?
And what about "the wisdom factor" in relationship to how I move through my world of events in any given day? Am I aware of the need to even seek that wisdom or do I just get into the rush of life and go from there?
So what about joy in Jesus? Am I seeing what I should, "counting my blessings" as they say, and taking joy in the joy of Jesus in my life?

That's It!

May the Presence of Jesus be a meaningful and enjoyable realization for you this day,
